Western Weddings Catch On

Themed weddings are becoming a popular option for couples who don't want to go with a stuffy traditional ceremony, or who want to express themselves on their special day. One popular theme wedding option is the western-style wedding. Cowboy boots, straw bales, and more give this wedding its own atmosphere. If you're considering having a western wedding of your own, here are a few tips to make it succeed.

Costuming is a must for the western or country themed wedding. Look at costume shops or specialty bridal and wedding tailors to find the right Old West themed outfits for your wedding. Encourage your guests to dress up as well, even it's just wearing an old pair of cowboy boots. Costuming contributes to the fun and atmosphere of your western wedding.

Wedding favors are a great place to add to your wedding's personality. There are lots of options, both homemade and ordered commercially, that can be procured. Try containers for food and candy shaped like cowboy hats, boots, tin buckets, or little mason jars. Soaps and candles in these shapes can also be a hit. Children love little felt cowboy hats, and you can get items custom printed or engraved with your names and the date of your wedding. Consider charms, belt buckles, or containers of hot sauce or other condiments.

Dancing is an important part of the wedding reception for most people. However, you don't just have to limit yourself to the traditional dances. Get a square dance caller and have the appropriate music for a real country-style barn dance at your western wedding. Home style food, like fried chicken and biscuits can really add to that Old West feel.

Remember to theme your invitations and place cards too. Employing western motifs and classic logos will add to the feeling of yesteryear. You can word your invitations in a more old fashioned way, and get an authentic look by using black or dark brown ink on heavy paper or card stock. Paper colors like cream and tan give your invitations and place cards an aged look. These little touches are what will make your western style wedding the most successful.
