Some Brides Opt For Western

A bride doesn't expect to get a lot of wear out of her western wedding dress, but Marianne Miller was fortunate. She wore hers twice. First at Portola Valley, where she was married to Albert Gallatin Boyce V. And again six days later when the newlywed Boyces greeted 200 friends at a garden reception in San Diego.

Marianne is the daughter of Karen Albrecht Miller and Lee Roy Miller of San Diego. Albert is the son of the Albert Gallatin Boyces IV of Manteca in Central California. In addition to her parents, relatives of the bride who journeyed to the wedding in Northern California included her grandmothers, Emilie Albrecht and Emma Lee Powell; her brother and sister, Ron and Theresa Miller; her aunt, uncle and cousin, Joanne and Bill Travers and their son Bill; and another aunt, Clarice Carls.

Marianne's western wedding gown was designed by Jessica McClintock, and her bridesmaids were outfitted in Laura Ashley dresses.

The San Diego reception was held on the terrace of the Kim Fletchers' Point Loma showplace. The In Case Trio played and sang their way through a crowd that included lifelong friends of the bride and her parents. Among the many were Anne and Jerry Ryan, Jane and Tom Fetter, Anne Vafis, Tommi and Bob Adelizzi, Ted Gildred and Joy and Dr. Fred Frye.

The bridegroom's parents, Ginny and Pete Boyce, came down for the party, and so did his grandmother, Jean Boyce West.

The young Boyces delayed their western wedding trip until Marianne had received her diploma from Stanford University. Then they took off for South America -- for a visit to Machu Picchu; a voyage on the Amazon, trips to Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina and a month in Rio de Janeiro.

The Bishop's School chapel in La Jolla was the setting for the June wedding of Julie Cox, daughter of Petie Cox and Bill Cox of Poway, and John Rick, son of Susan and Bill Rick of Point Loma.

Sandra Palmer was Julie's maid of honor, and her bridesmaids were Michelle Becker, Mindy Vargas and Nancy Rick. John's best man was Mark Hanley. The ushers were his brother, Glenn Rick; Shannon Cox; David Cox; Chris Voss; and David Fishel.

The bride made the dresses worn by flower girls Debbie Cochran and Sara Rick. David Cochran was the ring bearer. Among the out-of-town relatives who attended the wedding and a reception at the Windrose restaurant were Frances and Wilford Cumbia, here from their home in Virginia; Ellie and Warren Ulrich, with their daughter Kathy; and Cindy and John Ulrich.
