Melissa Phileman and William McClynnis of Homosassa exchanged wedding vows on Sept. 2 in the Little Springs Bicentennial Park gazebo in Crystal River, with the Rev. Roger Kronmann of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church officiating.

The Labor Day weekend event was held with the Renaissance western wedding theme. The couple are active members of the Adrian Empire, a medieval recreational group specializing in sword fighting, and Shinai, the art of utilizing bamboo swords, arts and crafts, cooking, dyeing, making fish hooks, carving, weaving, painting and drawing, playing music, story-telling and other activities of historical time.

Group meetings are held each Friday at Little Springs Bicentennial Park and meet the last Saturday of each month for selected tournaments of western wedding theme.

Most members of the Adrian Empire were dressed in clothing of the period, including the bride, whose wedding gown was designed by seamstress Patricia Magnuson . The members included Bobby Proffitt, Amanda Jones, Shane and Kroy York, Joy Long, Mike Barber and David French . Best man was Jon Jeremy Knight and maid of honor, Sharon Knight . Flower girl was Kayla Getzel and ringbearer Michael Kyle .

Melissa's parents, Marsha and Jerry Phileman Jr. of Dunnellon, and William's parents, Bob and Carla Sue McClynnis of Homosassa, jointly gave a reception at the Boys and Girls Club in Crystal River. Highlights from the reception included dancing and entertainment from the hobbits, the children who were guests of the wedding party.

Melissa said she received an unusual gift in western wedding theme - a large supply of unlabeled cans of a variety of food and beverages. She said that this has been a tradition of her in-laws for at least the past 40 years. Women's Club holds meeting The Oak Village Women's Club will hold its monthly luncheon-meeting Oct. 9 at K.C.
